what is decomposition and composting?

Decomposition: the process in which a material is broken down into smaller parts, for example, composting food.
composting: a natural process of decomposition where decayed or decaying matter decomposes to fertilize the soil. Compost is made up of food wasted or scraps such as banana peels, egg shells, coffee grinds or plant material like leaves, grass clippings, and vegetable peels. Breaking down food waste in order to make compost is beneficial for keeping your soil healthy so that plants will grow from it.
